This year’s veida took place in
Israel on the environmental
kibbutz of Nitzana. Lots of
water saving techniques and
sunlight absorbing machines and
such were there in order to
encourage the conservation of
Israel’s resources. There was
also a large wind tower which
was very nice to sit in and cool
off from the heat of the Negev.
Very good stuff, especially
because it’s all about becoming
greener and more environmental,
something which Habo also puts
emphasis on too.
In total, there were 19 Bogrim,
1 Muchan and the 15 English
shnatties at veida 2010, who
argued, questioned and
questioned some more on the
points and resolutions that were
brought up at veida. It was all
very intense and serious we did,
however, have an hour or so
after lunch to top up on our
tans and play a guitar or two.
Right. Ok. As part of a
resolution passed, it has now
been written that new amendments
and resolutions passed in the
veida of that year should be
published. So here we go:
In the first resolution, the
shlichim of Habonim Dror now
have the right to vote which
meant that Ido, our shaliach
could participate in veida 2010.
Another important point to add
involves avodah. Instead of it
just referring to cleaning it
now involves giving chanichim
tasks that are similar to those
on a kibbutz to give our camps a
kibbutzy feel. Tasks include
firewood collection for fires,
chopping up salad ingredients
for salad and baking challah for
shabbat. Also, to feel even more
like we are on a kibbutz or even
in Israel, we must now make a
more conscious effort to speak
Ivrit on camp, label everything
we can in Hebrew and establish
Ulpan classes on camps. It’s
also really important to add
that “Ivrit Shimushit” is now to
be part of every camp so that
each day, another new word is
learnt through the wonder of
performing arts.
In order for chanichim to fully
understand the concept of kuppah
within a kvutzah, a motion was
passed that on the first day of
machaneh/ tiyul there will be a
peulah or sicha given by the
madrichim to educate the value
of kuppah to use with their
money that they contributed and
all sweets and goodies that they
brought with on tiyul. If this
amazing thing works to plan, the
idea is that the process will
continue throughout machaneh.
Following on, there will now be
a time that is compulsory
dedicated to education on the
Arab-Israeli conflict at every
machaneh along with the set-up
of a relevant va’ad to take care
of this matter.
Paul Clayton has now received
the right to have a column in
‘koleinu’ to share his security
tips and he has received the
role of ‘rosh bitachon’ (head
security)
Harvey Kaye must perform 3 roly
polys to display the fact that
he has woken up and left his
bedroom. They are to be
performed outside, preferably on
a grassy area to avoid injury.
Nicolas Collins is now known as
Mr. Laus Miner in a Habonim Dror
environment.
Oh, and this years 3 day camping
session with all of the
madrichim has been grammatically
changed from “tnuat lomedet” to
“tnua lomedet”.
Wow. Exciting stuff. Have a
nice day!
