The Habonim shnat group have
just returned from a week’s long
inspirational Holocaust seminar
in Poland. Daniel Gottleib from
Hale, said “travelling to Poland
with a group of 20 Jewish
friends to learn about our
history and roots will be
something I will never forget.”
The seminar run by Habonim’s
sister movement in Israel Hanoar
Ha’voed, focuses on the
establishment of youth movements
during the Holocaust, and the
idea of resistance from within
the Ghetto’s. The group
travelled to all the major
concentration camps including
Aushwitz and Majdanek, whilst
also visiting the Warsaw and
Krakow ghettos. The itinerary
also featured trips to the towns
of Lublin and Tykotzin where
large Jewish communities once
lived. “To learn about the
establishment of youth movements
and the stories of resistance
from within the ghettos has
provided us all with the
inspiration to be leaders of
Habonim Dror for many years to
come.” (Gabrielle Swerling)
