Habonim Dror bogrim
headed down to the quaint village of
Implington, Cambridge to help out with
Cambridge Limmud’s annual conference
(Sunday 15th March). Limmud is an
international organisation and is one of
the most exciting and innovative
educational organisations in the
British-Jewish community. Over 5,000
people, from every walk of life,
background, religious affiliation and
age have attended at least one Limmud
event this year - and over 20,000 have
attended a Limmud event in their 25-year
history.
Organised almost entirely by over 500
volunteers,
the Limmud model of
cross-communal Jewish education has been
replicated throughout the world.
Limmud aim to enable each participant to
go one step further on their own Jewish
journey by offering access to some of
the world's most dynamic Jewish
educators, performers and teachers. They
use all educational styles including
lectures, workshops, text-study
sessions, film, meditation,
discussions, exhibits and performances
to ensure that there is always
‘something for everyone'. Indeed, the
content of a typical Limmud event is as
diverse as its participants!
Habonim Dror were approached to run the
Young Limmud for children aged between
5-16 years. The day took the children
on an educational journey through Jewish
story-telling to an Israeli interactive
map and beyond.
The Limmud tsevet, roshed by Daniel
Ailion, comprised of Harvey Kaye,
Georgie Davis, Maxwell Grant, Cassie
Matus and Jonny Quinn. The tsevet were
also joined by Movement workers Deborah
Brown and Marc Fink. Daniel commented,
“the day was a great success…it’s so
pleasing to know that we have helped
bring a touch of Habo to a place like
Cambridge’. Deborah Brown, mazkira,
concluded, “helping out in outreach
Jewish communities such as here in
Cambridge has been a thrilling feeling.
Most of the children today have had no
experience of attending a youth movement
event let alone a machaneh and to
enlighten them and open their minds to
the magic of Habonim has been extremely
worthwhile.” Habonim’s presence in
Cambridge hopes to kick start a flurry
of activity in the area with potential
for a ken in the community and Cambridge
children on our summer and winter camp
programmes in the near future!
Habonim Dror would
like to thank all those who volunteered
at the event. If you want to find out
