Over 100 Attend Habo Day for Leaders
Every year Habonim Dror have a day for all the leaders that are staffing camp in the summer, and this year was no different with a huge turnout of over 100 people at this years event in Blackburn. The event was held on Monday and is a mixture of fun for the leaders and a time when there are elections for members to sit on the Habonim Dror executive committee throughout the year. This was also the first chance the movement would say goodbye to outgoing movement workers and the new incoming Tzevet.
The day started with people arriving and having a big welcome where everyone relaxed and said hello to all their friends, before Anthony Steen ran a Habonim Dror evaluation activity, which the leaders got very involved with. Then it was time for a humungous barbeque where the members of Habonim Dror feasted upon. In the afternoon all the different year groups sat in their own groups and elected a member onto the Habonim Dror executive committee that sits throughout the year.
When all the elections had finished all the 5 camps stood in a circle and sang their camp songs to each other before Anthony Steen and Gary Sakol were thanked by the movement for their two years of work and the new Tzevet were introduced to the camp. After all the thank you’s the camp stood together to sing the Habonim Dror song followed by Hatikvah.
Anthony Steen commented, “This was truly a special day in my Habonim Dror career. Although I still have the summer to work for the movement it was very emotional and was one of the highlights in my 18 years with the movement. It is fantastic when all the leaders come together as I truly believe there is no better feeling than being part of a caring, fun and ideological movement.”
New social action worker Natasha Abrahamson, from Whitefield, said, “To have people from Glasgow to London all in the one place welcoming me into the new Tzevet was a fantastic welcome. I am so excited to be working for Habonim Dror and hearing 100 people’s desire to be socially active made me well up with excitement.”
