Another Telephone Success For Habo
Last weekend Manchester United may have been lifting the title, but members of Habonim Dror were lifting up the phones to help with the annual Heathlands telethon to raise money for the Jewish care home.
This is the second time this year Habonim Dror members have been fired up to call round raising money for the community, the last when over 30 members rallied to the UJIA super Sunday, the most from any youth movement in the UK. This continues the community work that social action worker Anthony Steen laid out at the beginning of the year. “It has been a big focus of mine to get kids active in regular socially active events. We have done telethons, visiting and campaigning. We are a large part of the Manchester Jewish Community and we want to respond by helping that community out in any way we can.”
One of the volunteers, Guy Copitch, commented, ”Heathlands is a very important part of the community and it was a pleasure to go and raise money for this wonderful home. It is great to know that only a few hours of your own life can make huge differences to other peoples.”
Roxanne Lazarus, a member of the social action team on winter camp, commented, “If it wasn’t for Habonim Dror I would not have got a love for the community and helping others. It is such an important movement and I think everyone should experience a Habonim Dror programme and get the same opportunity I had. “
