Large Numbers Solve Habo Purim Mystery
Last Sunday was the Glasgow Purim Extravaganza organised by Habonim Dror and the event was more successful than organisers had predicted. 30 leaders and youth packed into the Habonim Dror bayit to solve the Purim murder mystery with a twist.
The night started with a video that introduced all the characters in the Habo murder mystery for example “Mordi the Maniac Wrestler”. At the end of the video King Achashverosh was killed and the kids had to try and solve the mystery, but this was not just a regular murder mystery. The kids had to do tasks, for example eating 3 cream crackers in a minute, and they were given paper homontashen based on how well they did. Pending on the number they received gave them a certain amount of time to interview a suspect and so on. After all suspects were interviewed and all tasks completed the youth guessed the murderer and it was “Haman the gangster” who had killed the king.
Habonim Dror movement workers Gary Sakol and Anthony Steen, both from Glasgow, ran the event with regular leaders Greg Manson, Elliot Gold, Robbie Alon and Emma Reinhold. The event was designed to attract the youth to Habonim Dror summer camps and there was a very positive atmosphere after the meeting. Greg commented, “This was a really great meeting, everyone had fun and its true when you have fun the time flies by!” Gary said, “I have not seen such a lively meeting in Glasgow for ages, it really took me back to my youth! There was a fantastic number of kids and we are all so pleased they enjoyed it.”
Habonim Dror resumes its regular schedule next week starting with a meeting for the S1+2’s next Sunday followed by meetings for P6+7 the following week. The meeting starts at 6.30pm until 8.30pm and costs £2. All meetings will take place at the Habonim Dror bayit, 59 Barrhead Road, N. Mearns (opp asda).
