The Legacy of an Oustanding Platoon Commander
BENJI'S STORY - THE LEGACY OF AN OUTSTANDING PLATOON COMMANDER
Major Benji Hillman was a Company Commander in one of the most elite commando units of the Israeli army. Along with four of his soldiers who gave their lives defending Israel, Benji was killed in southern Lebanon almost a year ago. A highly decorated senior officer, described by Amos Harel of "Ha'aretz" newspaper as a soldier "who stood out... even among a generation of Golani field commanders," Benji was particularly known for the help he gave to "lone soldiers" from deprived backgrounds. What was it that made Benji Hillman such an exceptional soldier? As the anniversary of his first yahrzeit approaches, come and hear his brother, Shimon Hillman give a moving account of the boy from Kingsbury who became an outstanding Platoon commander and inspiration behind "Habayit shel Benji", a major project to care for deprived Israeli soldiers who are alone (chayalim bodedim), with no family, home or income.
