16/09/07 - Habo at Day for Darfur Rally

Habo took almost 100 people to the Day for Darfur Rally. The march went from the Sudanese Embassy to outside Downing Street where there was a huge rally.

15/08/07 - Urgent Appeal!

Gideon Prodgers, a current participant in Shnat Hachshara, our one-year madrichim training course in Israel was rushed into "Shaare Zedek" hospital, Jerusalem, on Thursday night, 21st of June. Leukaemia was diagnosed and the doctors immediately started on chemotherapy.

14/08/07 - Summer Camps a raring success!

Habonim Dror summer camps ended this week and organisers are very pleased with the way the summer turned out for the just under 500 participants. Over 350 were involved this summer from Manchester with the rest coming from Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London and Oxford.

Major Benji Hillman was a Company Commander in one of the most elite commando units of the Israeli army. Along with four of his soldiers who gave their lives defending Israel, Benji was killed in southern Lebanon almost a year ago.

Last weekend almost thirty madrachim from Habonim Dror went on a training weekend to train leaders for weekly meetings and summer camp. The weekend was designed to train leaders on activity writing and the theme was the current Genocide in Darfur.

Bascially the seminar (called Baderech) is for all youth movements to get together and not only get to know each other, but to kick start your leadership training off. The seminar is run by UJIA Makor who have really great educators, so not only will you have fun you will have a great head start in becoming the best leader Habo has ever seen!We need your applications as soon as possible, places are limited (around 12 for Habo).

Large Numbers Solve Glasgow Habo Purim Mystery

Last Sunday was the Glasgow Purim Extravaganza organised by Habonim Dror and the event was more successful than organisers had predicted. 30 leaders and youth packed into the Habonim Dror bayit to solve the Purim murder mystery with a twist.

Habonim Dror movement workers are once more showing their commitment to the Glasgow community by running a Purim Extravaganza this Sunday in Glasgow for people in primary 6 to secondary 2’s. Glasgow born Anthony Steen and Gary Sakol are coming up on Sunday.

Habonim Dror were expecting to fill two Israel Camps this year, but no one in the office could have predicted that they would have been sold out before the middle of February. Now the office are hopeful that there will be enough sixteen year olds that want to go to Israel with Habo this summer to get a third camp, the first time in ten years.

But they knew that first they had to learn the ways of the Habonim Dror.

Bogrim Seminar.  2nd-4th March

As most of you know, MICHAL and YUVAL are coming over to the UK on the weekend of the 2nd March, to run a seminar for you all.  Michal and Yuval are last years, and the years before Israeli shnat madrichim – so for those of you on shnat during these years, it should be wicked to see them.  However, do not worry if you were not on shnat at all / during these years, as all bogrim are invited and encouraged to attend the event.

Weekend of Wonder for all Year 9s.  23rd-24th March

The weekend promises lots of fun and a chance to be reunited on a camp event once again with your friends before RISHONIM 07. The weekend again has more than one dimension. As well as being a chance for you to have a weekend away with your friends, we can also promise that we have some rather exciting madrichim taking part in the weekend. They are very close to your heart. More will be revealed closer to the time.

Bone Marrow Donor Screening

Unfortunately, I recently received some sad news - my mum, Sharon Berger, was diagnosed with MDS, a rare bone marrow disease. MDS is a genetic blood disorder where the bone marrow does not produce enough healthy white blood cells and therefore the body's immune system cannot fight off infections.   To prevent leukaemia, the only treatment for MDS is a bone marrow transplant.  At the moment we are searching for a perfect bone marrow match through the Anthony Nolan Trust database in the UK.

The focus is moving away from the Israeli kidnapped soldiers so we must emphasise our solidarity with our brothers and their families.

United Jewish Israel Appeal are a huge charity in the UK that donates money to various different causes, including Israel and Jewish projects in Israel.  They also heavily subsidise all movement (including Haboinim Dror) events.  If you can spare a couple of hours on Sunday 11th March to help phone around the community for donations, that would be greatly appreciated.

UJIA Super Sunday - Please Help Out!

Every year, for one day, UJIA run a 'Super Sunday'.  This is where they gather as many volunteers as possible, from all over Britain, into all their offices, and have a huge phone round to try and raise as much money as possible. 

Much of the money raised on this day goes directly to pay for Israel Experience subsidies for chanichim, funding of shlichim, and of course, the direct allocations grants that your movement/organization receives from the UJIA.  SO it is vital that we raise as much as possible.   Please Helpl!

Bamboo Medicasting - An Israeli Start Up Company

We are just launching a trial with a large UK cellular operator, and it is important for us to have young people join it.  I thought that it may be worthwhile to see if Jewish youth might be willing to both enjoy a cutting-edge video service and in doing so help an Israeli company, as well as have direct input in the development of advanced mobile services.

01.11.05 - Social Action Emails

The month of Cheshvan was 'dubbed' social action month.  To 'celebrate' this, Habonim Dror sent out an email a day, to over 2000 people a day, giving them something good to do for that day.  This whole project has been overwhelming, with great response.   Click the picture on the left to see the emails, or click here to see the replies we had.
