Mitzvah day UK - "A massive success"
Manchester
Sunday 16th November saw the arrival of the much anticipated Mitzvah Day with people internationally giving their time to make their mark on the world. As part of Jewish social action month (Cheshvan), Mitzvah Day encourages more people to do more good deeds each year. And of course, we here at HDUK got involved and gave our time run projects in Manchester and London.
In partnership with Maccabi, the Manchester project involved an old Welly collection. We then painted them Wellies and filled them with plants to distribute them to the residents of Heathlands. With over 20 chanichim lending their hands it was a fabulous day and most importantly a genuine example of how we can get involved in the community.
London
Members of Habonim Dror, were among around 11,000 Jews and others who gave a few hours of their time to support numerous good causes on “Mitzvah Day” (Sunday 16th November). Mitzvah day founder and chair, Laura Marks has congratulated Habonim Dror on their efforts saying “every project makes a real difference to the individuals it touches.”
The project – one of around 250 being organised nationally – involved Habonim Dror leaders running an activity for children from the Norris Lea cheder that involved learning about poverty in the UK and gave them the opportunity to wrap presents at the London Jewish Community Centre to be given to children with long-term illnesses for Christmas.
Mitzvah Day Project organiser, Ilan, says
“As a youth movement we take great pride in knowing that our members are involved in social action projects such as Mitzvah Day that help to improve the lives of others.”
