Over Fifty at Habo Leadership Day
Over fifty new Habonim Dror leaders attended the annual leadership seminar last Sunday at Bowdon Assembly Rooms. This starts the run up to Habonim Dror summer camps that are set to be bigger and better than last year as reflected by the higher numbers attending. Over 400 people will take part in Habonim Dror summer activities this summer and organisers are pleased with the increase.
The new leaders, who all went on Israel Camp last year, have been part of a rigorous training process throughout the year including two weekends, winter camp, day seminars and have had training at the Habonim Dror weekly meetings. Tour leader last year and current movement worker Anthony Steen commented, “The first thing that has been a huge achievement is retaining the high numbers we had on tour with almost 60 out the 80 leading camp for us this summer. The second major thing is that this year is not only naturally talented, but they have had more leadership training than ever before and this will be topped again next year. Habonim Dror is committed to train high quality leaders and we have a revolutionary new programme organised by the returning shnat group.”
Members of the returning Habonim Dror shnat group organised the day at Bowdon and have planned to be involved in many new projects Habonim Dror are launching in the New Year. 8 of the 16 returning shnat group were involved in this event, which proved to be a huge success. Max Grant from North Manchester commented, “We knew we had organised a great programme, but we were shocked at how many people turned up. To be honest for these days you never know how many people will come, but over fifty was more than we could have imagined.” Talking on the role of the returning shnat group, Rob Jacobs said, “We have a responsibility to be at the forefront of all the events Habonim Dror organise. We are going to be heavily involved with this year group to build a strong Shnat group next year.”
